Obituary of James Einar Sogard

James Einar Sogard, 86, of Duluth, MN, died peacefully on January 17, 2015 in St. Luke's Hospital. He was born on June 23, 1928 in Crosby, MN to Einar and Sadie Sogard. He was a 1946 graduate of Hermantown High School, and an Army veteran of the Korean War. On September 19, 1953 he married Carol Bloom. Jim was an engineer on the Burlington Northern Railroad for 38 years until retiring to Lakeland, Florida for 25 years. He was an avid golfer his whole life, and shared that hobby with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by his wife, Carol; son Jeffrey (Carole) of Dayton, Ohio, daughters Karen (Tom) Woloszyn of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Cheryl (Brian) Spehar of Duluth; sisters Dolores (Ralph) Dass and Barbara Hanson; grandchildren Stephanie, Jennifer and Michael Sogard, Christopher and John Woloszyn, Alex and Breanna Spehar, and great-granddaughter Gracie Hoener. Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday January 21, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2415 Ensign Street. There will be a 10:00 gathering of family and friends until the 11:00 service. The family wishes to thank Marywood/Benedictine Health Center and St. Luke's Hospital for their care of Jim during the last few months. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Benedictine Health Center Foundation's Building Fund, 935 Kenwood Avenue, Duluth MN 55811.
