Obituary of Ronald Elmer Running

Ronald "Ron" Elmer Running, passed away Jan. 21, 2015. Ron was born Aug. 17, 1927 in Duluth and proudly lived his whole life in Lakeside including 58 years on Jay Street. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1945. In January 1951, after working on the Great Lakes freighter Robert Hobson', he married Gladys Rakotz and they had three children. Ron was always a hard worker. He was a World War II veteran (Navy), an Eagle Scout and worked 39 years for MNDOT in Duluth. Ron worked on I-35 from Duluth to the Twin Cities when it was first being built. He relocated many businesses and residents when the freeway was built through Duluth as a relocation advisor. Ron retired in 1990. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, gardening and watching the Twins and Vikings. He was a member of several organizations throughout his life including the Shriners, but most enjoyed being a Cub Scout Leader. Ron was married to RaeAnne in 1986. They have spent the last 28 years together and enjoyed traveling. He will be missed by his wife, family and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Campbell and Martha Running; his sisters Nancy and Carol. He is survived by his wife RaeAnne; brother Rich (Maureen) Running; children Greg (Peggy) Running of Burnsville, Julie Running of Duluth, Barb (Rod) Dupree of New Hope; stepchildren Kim (Chuck) Pfuhl of Esko and Scott Sinnott also of Esko; grandchildren, Amy (Kyle) Holt of Lakeville, Jeff (Julie) Running of Chaska and Joe (Christina Bergren) Dupree of Plymouth; great-granddaughters, Ella and Reese Holt and a great-granddaughter due in May. He is also survived by aunt Betty (Heino) Borg of Grand Rapids and cousin Gene (Betty) Running of Duluth. VISITATION: 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 in First Memorial Funeral Chapel 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth. Interment will be held at Park Hill Cemetery.
