Obituary of Mary Price Bensman

One hundred year old Dr. Mary Price Bensman was born in Beaver’s Cree, Maryland on August 17, 1917. After graduating from high school in Kendallville, Indiana, she became a doctor in 1946 at the University of Indiana Medical School. Mary married classmate Ronald Price and they interned and had a son in Altoona, PA. When her husband went into the service, Mary hung out her shingle in Lock Haven, PA, where there was a Piper Cub factory and she took flying lessons. When the governor of SD, Joe Foss, bought a Piper Cub, she delivered the plane to him and made the front page of the paper. She loved flying. In the 1950’s, Mary and her son, Ron moved to Sioux Falls, SD as a General Practitioner and Mary remembers delivering about 1,200 babies with only one c-section. In 1961, she was invited to join the PM&R Dept. at the University of MN, where she met and married Dr. Louis Bensman and specialized in work with paraplegics and quadriplegics. She died april 5, 2018. Preceded in death by husband, Dr. Louis Bensman and son, Ronald Price. Survived by daughter-in-law, Phyllis Price; step-son, Dr. Alan (Carol) Bensman; step-daughter, Diane (Burt) Wiesberg and their families, as well as her beloved dog, Joanie. Per Mary’s request, no services will be held. Special thanks to Park Nicollet Hospice and Senior Helpers. Memorials preferred to charity of donor’s choice.
