Corinne Wickenburg

Obituary of Corinne ‘Corky’ Wickenburg

Corinne "Corky" Wickenburg peacefully passed away into the arms of Jesus on Jan. 28, 2015. Corky was born on Aug. 9, 1929 to John and Julia Samdal. Her parents immigrated from Norway, and she always felt a deep connection to her Norwegian heritage. She and her brother, Stanley Samdal, were life- long residents of Duluth. Corky always loved -- and was immensely proud of-- her hometown and "her" Lake Superior. Corky was the Valedictorian of the Duluth Central High School Class of 1947. She began working at Minnesota Power and Light and transitioned to a career as an Administrative Assistant and Substitute Teacher in the Duluth Public School System in 1970. During her 25 year career with the school system, she touched the lives of many of her students and colleagues with her kindness, grace, and ever-present sense of humor. Corky was a devoted mother and grandmother, as well as a cherished friend to many. She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Jody Rosenberg (Aaron) of Fayetteville, N.C., and granddaughters, Rachael and Leah; and son, John Wickenburg (Laurie) of Santa Rosa, Calif., and grandsons Nick, Barret, and Liam. MEMORIAL GATHERING: will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in July. The family would appreciate that any donations in Corky's memory be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
