Obituary of Sara Jane Evans Koenig
Sara Jane Evans Koenig, 96, in her own words “Left this earth and went to LaLaLand” – on her own terms, quietly and regretfully on February 9, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.
Jane was born on November 4, 1918 to Charles and Annie B. Evans in Duluth. She graduated from Central High School and later attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. While in Brooklyn, she met her future husband, Jack, and found they shared a birthday.
During the war, she worked in Duluth, while Jack served with the Marine Corps in the Pacific. Upon his return in 1944, they were married and after Jack’s discharge, they moved to Duluth. Their son Charles was born on November 4, 1946.
Jane lived the rest of her life in Duluth and enjoyed life fully. She loved nature, especially birds, gardens and wildlife, entertaining, dining and driving around.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Charles and Annie Evans; brother, Dick (Betty) Evans; uncle Martin (Ethel) Brown of Duluth and other beloved uncles, aunt and cousins.
Jane is survived by her son Charles (Shari Flesness) of Duluth; two grandchildren, Sarah Kate Koenig of Cambridge, MA and Alicia (Jonathan Felipe Vargas) Koenig De Felipe of Minneapolis; the Persches and the Callahans.
A celebration of her life will be held in the Chapel at Ecumen, 4004 London Rd, on Friday, February 27th at 1:00 p.m.
The family wishes to thank the staff of, and nurses at Lakeshore at Ecumen, the Cardiac and Hospice units at St. Luke’s and the incredible folks at Solvay House for their truly lovely and heartfelt care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to a favorite charity.
