Obituary of Phillip N. Janzig
Phillip N. Janzig, 65, of Duluth, died on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 in Solvay Hospice House.
Phillip was born on January 13, 1950 to Herbert and Marian (Nelson) Janzig. He lived until his teenage years in Iron River, WI. Phill drove bus for the DTA for 30 years before retiring in 2005. He was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Phill could never get enough fishing and cherished his trips to Canada with his fishing buddies. He was instrumental in starting the Sat A.M. Breakfast Group. Phill worked as a volunteer for the Coast Guard Auxiliary and loved Ham radios (we all knew his call #). He fought for safe boating and worked with Safe Boat inspections. He also worked with the Border Patrol and FEMA following disasters such as the one in Wilmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Phillip is survived by his wife of 43 years Kathy; children, Dawn Janzig, Aaron (Courtney) and Amy Janzig all of Duluth; sister Cyndy (Dave) Janzig of Bloomington, MN; grandson Jackson as well as many extended family members and friends.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Amber Erickson and the ALS team at SMDC and the staff at Benedictine Adult Day Services for helping the Janzig family.
Phill fought his battle with ALS with dignity and grace. He is finally at peace, perhaps having coffee and fishing with his buddy Dale.
Gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 am until the 11 am memorial service on Friday, March 6, 2015 in Our Saviors Lutheran Church 4831 Grand Ave. Duluth, MN. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
