Obituary of Lucille Palm Smoot
Lucille Palm Smoot, age 100, of Edina, Mn, passed away on March 7, 2015. Preceded in death by treasured husband, Charles Head Smoot. Survived by daughter, Judy Smoot Johnson; son, Charles “Skip” Smoot; daughter, Leslie Smoot (Tom Perls); grandchildren: Kakia and Alex Johnson, Katie, Charlie and Jim Smoot, Hannah, Nick and Travis Perls; great-grandchildren: Sam, Tom and Luke and many nieces and nephews. Lucy was born Dec. 7, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois, where she grew up, worked and raised her family. She played tennis until 90, began yoga at 96 and read the NY Times until 100. She devoted many hours of volunteer work to the Mary Crane League in Chicago, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the League of Women Voters and St. Therese Church in Deephaven, Mn. Lucy inspired those around her by her courage, humility, wisdom and ability to find uncommon beauty in common places. She possessed an open heart, listening ear, feisty disposition and ongoing appetite for fun. To her family she remains keystone and compass. A private interment was held at Resurrection Cemetery, Shorewood, Mn on March 11 and a celebration of life will be held in June. Memorials preferred to Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, or charity of donor’s choice.
