Obituary of Charles Richard Cannon
Charles Richard “Dick” Cannon passed away peacefully Sunday, March 8, 2015 surrounded by his family.
Dick was a lifelong resident of Duluth, born November 28, 1927, to Charles B. and Daisy Cannon. He graduated from Central High School and then served proudly in the U.S. Army.
Dick married his beloved wife, Marion Summers and together they raised three sons. He was a loving and devoted husband. Dick patiently cared for Marion as she struggled with Alzheimer’s. They were married for 56 years.
Dick was a member of Glen Avon Church. It was in Dick’s nature to be caring and helpful, so after his retirement from Frito Lay, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Domiano soup kitchen and Habitat for Humanity. Dick also gave a helping a hand at Glen Avon church and was willing to help his neighbors on Park Street, where he had lived for 60 years.
He enjoyed cycling and walking. Dick also took the Bong Bridge Challenge two times. He entered into the Minnesota Senior Track and Field in Duluth and won several medals for cycling and running in his age group.
Dick is survived by his three sons, Richard (Pamela) of Brighton, TN, Robert (Susan) of Duluth and Peter (Sherri) of Stillwater, MN; eight grandchildren, Charlie, Leyna, Rob, Dan, Matthew, Carson, Carter and Colton; four great-grandchildren and two on the way.
At Dick’s request, a private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Glen Avon Church. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota, 218-624-5200.
