Obituary of Lloyd Graven

Age 78 of Crystal, MN, passed away in the presence of his family. Lloyd was a 1954 graduate of Greene High School in Greene, Iowa, attended Wartburg College, and was graduated from St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota Law School. His early career included work at the Minnesota State Attorney General’s office; service as a JAG officer in the USAF – retiring as a captain; and Program Director with University of Minnesota College of Continuing Education. He spent most of his professional career as an economic researcher in private practice for Graven and Associates. He was active in local and state politics, and had a passion for liberal causes. He loved family, food and world travel. He was a life-long bridge player who travelled the country for tournaments, achieving Life Master status. He will be remembered by all as a rum Manhattan enthusiast who was generous, fair-minded, fun, welcoming and kind. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Helen Graven; brother, David Graven. Survived by wife Lori; four children, Paul and Susan Graven (Andrew, Henry), Sylvia Grismer (Ally, Kaelan, Davis), Peter and Rebecca Graven (Elliot, Amber), Marie Graven and Noel Swinburne; brother, Stanley Graven and wife, Mavis; and numerous extended family and friends whom he considered family. A celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held from 2:00-5:00 PM (program at 3PM) on Saturday, April 4th at the Theodore Wirth Chalet, 1301 Theodore Wirth Parkway, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Graven Award Fund at Wartburg College, Waverly, IA; YMCA camps Menogyn and Icaghowan; or an educational institution of your choice.
