Obituary of Zhenqing Zhu

Zhu, Zhenqing, one of the pioneers of neurosurgery in China passed away peacefully on April 11, 2018 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was born in Shanghai in 1919. He attended Peking Union Medical College in 1938, interrupted by WWII, then graduated from National Shanghai Medical College in 1945. He started to perform brain surgeries at Huashan Hospital in Shanghai in 1952. In 1958, he established department of neurosurgery at Chongqing Medical University and trained generations of Chinese neurosurgeons. In the early1970s, he pioneered the surgical therapy for intracranial aneurysms. He moved to U.S. in 1983 and worked until his mid 80’s as a research professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Preceded in death by his loving daughter Yilin, he is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years Qi Lin Zhu, MD, two sons Weising Chu, MD (Pamela Xu), Dennis Weixi Zhu, MD (Zuo Zhi) and grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, Emily, Leah and David. A private service will be held.
