Obituary of John Joseph Malecek

Malecek, John Joseph age 92, Long time resident of Coon Rapids and Blaine MN passed away peacefully on May 8 2015 at St Therese Home in New Hope MN. John was born August 8 1922 at home near New Folden, Minnesota, son of John and Mary (Serbus) Malecek. He grew up on farms in the Redwood Falls/ Bechyn MN area. He enlisted in the US Army in 1944 and served in Europe were he met Eva Lieb of Vienna Austria. They were married and lived in Minneapolis where they owned a small grocery store until John became a taxi driver and later a real estate agent. He continued driving Taxi until age 80 and was a respected elder among the drivers at the International Airport. John is survived by his children John & wife Gail of Mount Mauganui New Zealand, Angi & husband Carl Huskra of Houston TX and Chris and wife Celia of Plymouth, MN, 4 grandchildren David, Renee, Christian, Celina Malecek and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his ex-wife Eva, long time partner Lavonne Working, daughter Monica, brothers Jerome and Bernard and sisters Rose, Angela, Marjorie and Jeanne. Service will be held at 12:45 with visitation starting at 12 noon on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel on Historic Fort Rd Uninc MN. Burial, with full military honors will follow at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 2pm Minnesota Cremation Society 612 825-2435. Memorials are preferred made to the VFW and in lieu of flowers.
