Obituary of Carol J Shrake

Carol J. Shrake, 76, of Duluth, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in Miller Dwan Medical Center with her family by her side. Carol was born in Winner, South Dakota on December 10, 1938 to James and Percie (Audiss) Blare. She graduated from Chamberlain High School and was united in marriage to Roy L. Shrake in Pierre, South Dakota. Carol began her working career with the First National Bank System in Sturgis, South Dakota. The family relocated to Duluth, Minnesota in 1974 and Carol continued to work for First National Bank. Later on she worked for and ended her career as a stock broker for Piper Jaffray. Carol greatly enjoyed the outdoors and spent many days hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and motorcycling with her family and friends. She was also an avid rock hound. Carol used her skills to craft numerous items out of the rocks she collected and would often give these items away. Most of all she adored the time she spent with family and the memories that were created along the way. She is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her parents; sister LaVonne and grandson Nicholas Roy Shrake. Carol is survived by her husband Roy; children, Terry (Peggy), Kim (Brian Eimer) Johnson and Bradley (Lauretta); 5 grandchildren, Lindsay and Hannah Johnson and Levi, Keely and Tara Shrake; 2 great-grandchildren, Nykki and Wyatt; sisters, Delaine Ellis and Lyla (Robert) Erickson; brother Jim (Margie) Blare as well as many extended family members and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 3rd floor doctors and staff at Miller Dwan Medical Center. Memorial service to celebrate Carol’s life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at United Church of Christ 101 N Merrill St. in Chamberlain South Dakota.
