Obituary of Mary Kay Winek

Mary Kay (Lindsay) Winek, Superior, entered into eternal life on May 16, 2015 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth after a courageous battle with lymphoma. She was born April 6, 1943, in Superior to Jean and Catherine Lindsay and was a lifelong Superior area resident. On Sept. 14, 1961, Mary Kay married the love of her life, Robert Winek. She attended Cathedral High School and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse certification from WITC. She spent the majority of her working years at St. Mary's Hospital and Duluth Clinic. Mary Kay was known for her loving and generous spirit, especially towards her family and those she cared for during her long career in nursing. She had an extraordinary inner light and energy and will be incredibly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved canine companions Hi Dee and Daisy Mae. Mary Kay is survived by her husband of 53 years and best friend, Robert; daughter, Cathy (Walter) Ratschan, Green Bay; sons, Dan (Trudi) Winek, Woodbury, Brian (Sandy) Winek, Superior; grandchildren, Lauren, Ben, Nicole, and Allie; brothers, Peter (Susie) Lindsay, Tom (Gloria) Lindsay; sister, Elizabeth Lindsay, several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. The family would like to especially thank Solvay Hospice House in Duluth for the remarkable care and comfort. A prayer service with family has been previously held and a private interment service will be held at a later date.
