Obituary of Jodie Lynn Olson

Jodie Lynn Olson (Schmahl,) 34, was taken suddenly on May 24, 2015, after a short but courageous fight with brain cancer. She was surrounded by so much love from family and friends as she peacefully drifted away. Jodie was born on May 31, 1980, and was adopted by her parents, Richard and Cynthia Schmahl. She grew up in Two Harbors and graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1998 after being involved in countless sports, committees, and activities throughout high school. After high school, Jodie moved to Duluth and began working at the Green Mill where she still worked part-time. This job led her to acquire hundreds of new lifelong friends and was always a huge part of her life. She attended college in Duluth and Superior, earning degrees in accounting and business management. Upon college graduation, she began working at Waddell & Reed Financial Advisors in Duluth where she was excited to stay and grow through a long career. On Jan. 6, 2015, Jodie married the love of her life, Cory Olson, at a beautiful ceremony in Jamaica with their family and close friends at their sides. Everyone who met Jodie instantly became her best friend, and she had many in her short life. She was a generous, fun-loving, genuinely kind-hearted, beautiful individual. Jodie is survived by her husband, Cory of Duluth; her parents, Richard and Cynthia Schmahl of Duluth; her grandmother, Bev Johnson, of St. Paul; father and mother-in-law, Steve and Sharon Blake of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Kari (Jeff) Swanson of East Bethel and Michelle Blake of Hutchinson; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; her lifelong best friend, Melina (Jon) Lind; and countless friends.
