Obituary of Margaret Bardwell
The family of Margaret “Peg” Elizabeth Rogers Bardwell wishes to announce that she passed away on May 28, 2015 in St. Louis Park, MN. Peg was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 2008, to whom she had been married for 55 years. Peg is survived by her children Susan Quillin of New Hope, MN; Sherry (Ken) Dunn of Tyler, TX; Betty Ann Engelmann of Plymouth, MN; and David (Heidi) Bardwell of Woodbury, MN. She is also survived by seven grandchildren – Travis (Robin) Dunn of Houston, TX, Jim (Kate) Quillin of Garland, TX, Liz (Gabriel) Powell of Houston,TX, Sarah Engelmann of New York, NY, Mark Engelmann of Minneapolis, MN, Rachel Christenson of Minneapolis, MN and Elsa Bardwell of Woodbury, MN; and two great-grandsons – William Powell and Carter Dunn of Houston, TX. Her nephew Peter (Jane) Bardwell of Columbus, OH was a special person in her life, as were her many other beloved nieces and nephews.
Peg was born March 20, 1933 in Andover, MA to Alex and Margaret Kimball, and shortly thereafter she and her sister Rita were adopted by their Aunt Gladys and Uncle Thomas Rogers – who Peg called her “real” parents - when their birth mother passed away. At the age of twelve she happily discovered that four sweet boys she thought were her cousins – Bill, Tommy, Jimmy and Dan - were actually her brothers, and she lived out her childhood surrounded by the love of a big family.
When Peg and Fred married, they moved to Akron, OH where all four children were born, and then the fun began. They moved the family from Akron to Luxembourg City, Luxembourg; San Angelo, TX and then in 1979 relocated to Minnetonka, MN where they lived out their lives. Peg and Fred loved to travel and were fortunate enough to do a great deal of that both before and after their retirement. Peg’s greatest joy was her family, and her greatest gift was the gift of gab. She will forever be remembered as a person who never knew a stranger and always made people feel like she truly wanted to know all about them.
A memorial service and celebration of Peg’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 13000 St. David’s Road, Minnetonka, MN 55305. There will be a reception following at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to St. David’s Episcopal Church Cornerstone Endowment, 13000 St. David’s Road, Minnetonka, MN 55305, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
