Obituary of William A Symons
William A. Symons, 82, lifelong resident of Hermantown-Duluth, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 30, 2015 while at Edgewood Vista.
He was born Oct. 14, 1932 in Duluth to William G. and Florence Symons.
Bill was a 1950 graduate of Duluth Central High School, attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth and he served in the Naval Reserve for eight years. On Nov. 20, 1953, Bill married Jean Faye Milek in the chapel in First United Methodist Church, Duluth.
Bill operated the Lake Aire Bottle Shop & Motel, eventually buying his own liquor store, The Highland Bottle Shop. After selling the business, he bartended at the Le Grand Supper Club and operated the Proctor Moose Lodge until he retired.
When he was younger, Bill loved to curl. He enjoyed gardening, grilling, playing cards with family and friends, the company of his pets, but especially teasing people and winning over their hearts.
Bill was preceded in death by his son, William J. in 2005; his parents; a sister, Wyllys Janssen and his brother, Jack.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jean; daughters, Lori (Charles) Wipson of Hermantown and Cheryl (Jonathan) Joens of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; grandchildren, Christi (Steven) Muellner, Daniel Plummer, Erinn Symons and William D. Symons; his sister, Greta Jane Peterson of Duluth; and in-law/out-law club member, Shelly Symons Schwarz.
The family would like to thank the staff of Edgewood Vista, Viewcrest, St. Luke's Hospice, and a special thanks to Pat for their kindness to Bill and the family.
