Obituary of Dennis L Mitchell
Dennis L. Mitchell, 80, of Duluth, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at his home.
Dennis was born in Duluth on Jan. 31, 1935 to Milton and Mary (Tomar) Mitchell.
He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1953. After school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Lt. Col. In 1990 he purchased Yellow Cab which he operated for many years. Dennis loved to golf, both in Minnesota and in Arizona where he wintered. He also enjoyed playing in many bowling and cribbage leagues, reading western novels and having breakfast with friends at Randy's Cafe.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Milton "Bud", Leon, Jerry and Alan and daughter Denice.
Dennis is survived by his son Tony (Christine); two daughters, Sue Mitchell and Teri (Ty) Henderson; grandchildren, Erica, Cory, Jennifer, Tess, Karen, Jason and David; great-grandchildren, Bailey Vaughan, Brodey Wayne, Baily Ann, Tyler, Zander and Lila; sister Shirley Godfrey and many extended family members and friends.
A special thank you to the staff at St. Luke's Hospice for the care they provided as well as Lake Superior Community Health Center.
GATHERING OF IMMEDIATE AND EXTENDED FAMILY: 12:30 - 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015 in Cremation Society of Minnesota 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth. Military Honors will be provided by the Duluth Honor Guard. A celebration of life will continue from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Gopher Bar and Grill 402 North Central Ave. Duluth.
