Paul was not only wonderful to work with, he was kind and generous. I will remember him as one of those who interviewed me when I applied to work at SMM. He asked me a very insightful question I had never asked myself. Years later, during a sad time at SMM when many good people left the museum, he made it possible for some one who worked with me to remain employed. Knowing Paul, there may have been others he also helped. I have only good memories of him and am deeply saddened by his death.

I will always remember how nervous I was calling Paul's number at SMM to inquire about work. I was just out of college, had finished an internship in the Exhibits Dept., and hoped for a job. Paul surely did not need to hire me to file papers in his office or do other non-essential tasks, but he did, and that made a big difference in my life. I will remember his calm presence, delightful and irreverent sense of humor, and his kindness. Thanks, Paul.
