Obituary of Philip Ryan Johnson

Philip Ryan Johnson, 56, passed away on April 11, 2020, at the Benedictine Innsbruck Care Center in New Brighton, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Ames, Iowa, and grew up in Bloomington and West St. Paul, MN. A graduate of Henry Sibley High School in West St. Paul, Philip attended college at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Community and Technical College, and received a B.A. Degree from Augsburg College. He completed a M.S. Degree in Psychology at St. Mary’s College of Minnesota, while working full time.

He was a member of the MN Psychological Association and MENSA, and was certified as a brain injury specialist. Jobs in the Human Services field included Group Home’s Site Manager in Richfield, Life Skills Instructor and Counselor for ProAct, Inc. and Mental Health Practitioner for Home Based Services at Associated Clinic of Psychology.

Philip is survived by parents Richard and Dorothy Johnson, Nisswa, brothers and their families: Craig (Lisa), Madeline and Isabella; Glen (Carrie), Rayce, Hadley and Violet. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be missed by many who loved him.

He will be remembered mostly for his kind and caring demeanor and his hospitality toward others. Philip was a tremendous athlete, artist, and musician who also enjoyed spending time outdoors biking and camping. He was also active as a licensed ham radio operator.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
