Obituary of Muriel A Swardstrom

Muriel A. Swardstrom, 82, of Two Harbors, died Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Solvay Hospice House.

Muriel was born August 21, 1939 in Chicago, IL and moved to Two Harbors where she was a life-long resident. In 1959, she married Lyle Swardstrom and together they raised their four children.

Muriel was a member of the United Church of Two Harbors where she was the organist, pianist and church secretary for many years. She was an accomplished piano player and teacher and  honed her skills by taking lessons herself into her late 70s. Her love of classical music began at age 8 when she discovered Beethoven. She and Lyle enjoyed adventures small and large including snowmobiling, driving trips, boating, fishing, gardening and a memorable trip to the Redwoods in 2017.  She will be remembered for her quick Irish wit, her seamstress and knitting skills,  the extraordinarily beautiful quilts she made for all her children and grandchildren and the smell of endless loaves of warm bread baking in the kitchen.  Muriel fiercely loved and protected her family and deeply enjoyed time at the cabin, the “40s” and gathering around the table. She loved good food and always chose dessert.

Muriel passed away exactly one year to the day after Lyle, her beloved husband of 62 years. She is survived by her four children, Katie (Randy) Lancaster of Two Harbors, Jean (Jeff) Vito of Superior, John (Cheryl) Swardstrom of Two Harbors and Jim (Jerri) Swardstrom of Two Harbors, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

Muriel’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Lakeview Memorial Hospital and the loving staff at Solvay for the excellent care they provided.

Visitation will be from 1 PM until the 2 PM service on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the United Church of Two Harbors.
