Obituary of Russell Glenn Strand

Russell Glenn Strand, 51, of Willow River, MN passed away June 16th 2022 at Essentia Hospital, Duluthm after his courageous 1 ½ year battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Russ was born May 25, 1971 to Trygve Strand and Linda (Strand) Spears. He graduated in 1989 from Duluth Central High School. Russ was an Eagle Scout.

He became a Sheet Metal Journeyman. Presently he made many friends as he worked at EHS Doors in Superior, WI.

Russ loved the outdoors, enjoying mountain biking, camping, fly fishing, hiking and being on the water. He enjoyed the Flood Run each year on his motorcycle. Russ was also a dynamic volleyball player.

He was kind, generous and hard working. His infectious spirit and optimism made him unforgettable. We will miss his infectious laugh and quirky grin.

We would like to thank phenomenal staff at Essentia Hospital and Clinic with a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Nikcevich who encouraged Russ and gave him kindness, dignity and respect when he needed it the most.

Russell was preceded in death by grandparents Glenn and Adele Burke; Jim and Dagny Winn; uncle Lane Burke; aunt Nancy Burke; and uncle Russell and aunt Sonja Hammond.

He is survived by his parents Trygve Strand and Linda (Strand) Spears and her husband David; brother Jeffrey Strand; uncles Lyle Burke, Loren Burke (Lisa) and Lee Burke; extended family and honorary parents Pat and Sandy Watters; plus many friends and co-workers who will miss him deeply.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 20, 2-3 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 3 p.m., and a light lunch at Cremation Society of Minnesota at 4100 Grand Ave. in Duluth, MN.
