Emmett Lindblad

Obituary of Emmett Lawrence Lindblad

EMMETT LAWRENCE “Larry” LINDBLAD, age 83, of Kettle River, Minnesota passed away April 28, 2022, at his home.

Larry was the son of Emmett and Gladys Lindblad. He grew up with four sisters: Janet (Ray) Neubauer, Kathy (Ardell) Warren, Marlene (Ben) Kettner and Karen (Mike) Whaley. As a young family, they lived on a farm in the Highland area just west of Ashland. Larry and Janet walked to Highland school, a one room school, for grades 1-8.

During his younger years, he learned to catch adult wild skunks, snakes, and other small animals. He even had a pet Crow for a while. He would dig rooms under the snowbanks where he and his siblings played and in the hay bales in the barn loft. He hunted and explored along the White River with a 22 and often came home with his eyes swollen from bee stings.

The family moved to Central Avenue in West Duluth, Minnesota where he attended and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1956.

Larry developed an interest in working with metal and became a very accomplished machinist. He was able to build/create almost anything that he chose to. From the smallest metal parts for a machine to a submarine! He built the submarine from scratch and took it from Ashland to Superior.

He enjoyed racing a stock car (No. 555) at the Proctor raceway and neighboring racetracks when he was a young man.

He built many interesting, fun and useful creations. He also became a Diesel Mechanic and operated his own shop Larry’s Truck Repair on Central Avenue in West Duluth where he repaired semi-trucks until he retired.

He was creative and talented, strong and generous, and we will miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife Jacklyn (Mitchell) of 51 years, Ruby Reynolds, a baby brother Glen Nels, sister Janet Neubauer; and three close Carlson cousins, Boyd, Linda and David.

He is survived by, seven children, Steven (Sandy), Laurie (Ralph) Larson, Tal (Ann), Todd, Donette (Robert) Donahue, Paul (Angela), and Shane (Kresha); eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his three younger sisters and many nieces and nephews; cousins LaVerne Peter, Patty Fredrikson, David Fredrikson, Aunt Marilyn Fredrikson; and many other relatives and friends.

Gathering of family and friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth Minnesota.
