Obituary of Alfred James Lewis Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Alfred James Lewis, Jr. of Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Alfred or ‘Al’ as many called him was born in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, on February 6 th, 1955, and passed away due to complications of COVID-19, on January 23rd, 2022 at the age of 66.

Alfred was predeceased by his son, Charles Michael Lewis, His parents, Alfred "Whitey" and Shirley Lewis (Robbins); and also his siblings, James Lewis, Margaret Kinney, Palma Cryderman, Steven Lewis, Bill Lewis, Jon Lewis Marty Lewis and Brother-In-Law Alan Goodrich.

Alfred is survived by his life partner of 17 years Maria Canlas; his daughter Christin (Lewis) McKerchie (Dennis Rutledge) of Sault Sainte Marie, MI., his Grandchildren Kayla Price (Jeremy Tell), Myah McKerchie, and his great-grandchildren Estella and Jeremy.

Alfred is also survived by his siblings: Geri Steele (Mark) of New Prague, Minnesota, Betty Wyers (Dan) of Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, Lavina Goodrich of Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, Jeff Lewis (Rita) of Sault Sainte Marie and Nancy Swartz of North Pole, Alaska.

Alfred also leaves behind two former wives and friends, Michele (Pingatore) Pearson of DePere, Wisconsin, and Bonnie Benson of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, his partner’s children Paulo Canlas and Ana Knickerbocker and her grandchild Ayden whom he held a special bond with, as well as several special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Alfred had a passion for making people laugh and helping people in need. He was always rooting for the ‘underdog’ and was especially fond of the special needs children that he came into contact with while driving a school bus for Osseo Area Schools.

It is time for Alfred to come back home to Michigan and a short graveside ceremony and memorial service will take place in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan late Spring of 2022.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to his partner Maria and to the staff of North Memorial Health of Robbinsdale, MN., for their care and compassion since Al became ill.
