Obituary of Sidney Alyene Jones
Remembering Sidney Alyene Jones
Sidney was born in King, Texas on June 1, 1925 to Sidney Clinton Harman and Edith Alyene Dickie. She was the eldest of 7 children and grew up on 2 sections of ranch land. They raised sheep for wool.
Sidney married JW Jones on June 23, 1942. Together they had 3 children, Robin Wayne, Mickey Sid, and Cynthia Ann. They moved often. They were poor. Sidney taking in laundry, sewing, and doing housekeeping. Mickey and Cynthia remember picking cotton for 2 ½ cents a pound.
Sidney landed in Minnesota in 1964. She was an apartment caretaker for 17 years. After JW died, she retired and moved into a new apartment on the river in Anoka in December of 1987. She was on the second floor and looked at the river and downtown Anoka, when the leaves gave way in the fall and winter. She loved her apartment and lived there for 34 years.
Sidney always kept in touch with her siblings and other family in Texas. She volunteered her time to Eastern Star, Walker Plaza, Fred Moore Middle School, and gave 100's of hours to Anoka-Ramsey Theater Company, sewing costumes. She delivered food share to residents in her apartment building and put on pancake breakfasts to benefit the apartment building.
Up until last year, she made crochet, baked banana bread, put up jams and beets (one of her favorites). She liked to keep busy and managed her own care, making doctor appointments, getting her medications, groceries and taking trips on the bus to various stores. She wanted to be independent.
With time, there is always loss. Within her immediate family Sidney lost:
4 Siblings: Her Sister: Billie June Harman Daves Hail
Brothers: Donny Newt Harman (“Hoss”), Milton Eugene Harman (“Rooster”), and Ned Friend Harman
1 Child: Robin Wayne Jones.
2 Grand Children: Jennifer Elizabeth Jones and Morgan Ian Herrboldt.
Sidney is survived by:

Those who called her Nana:
3 Grand Children: Megan Herrboldt, Kimberly Jones, and Jeromy Jones.
5 Great Grand Children: Mason, Ian, Brooklyn, Jesse and Wyatt.
Sidney was kind, gracious, generous, honest, hard working, full of joy and had Jesus in her heart. Her favorite saying was: Love, Love, Love and Many Blessings.
Sidney died at 7:45 pm on September 5, 2021 of natural causes. She was 96. She was not alone when she passed. She lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed.
With love and respect, Lori.
