Obituary of Barbara Hostert Adrian
Adrian, Barbara Hostert Age 73 of Plymouth, MN, died Sunday, August 8, 2021 at NC Little Hospice in Edina after a nearly 20 year illness with Parkinson's Disease. She had resided at The Birches at Trillium Woods for the past two years. Barbara was born on October 19, 1947 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Claud G. and Rosalie (Kilburg) Hostert. She grew up on the family farm at Bernard, Iowa. She graduated from Aquin High School in Cascade, Iowa, in 1965 and Saint Marys School of Nursing in Rochester, MN in 1968. Barbara worked as an RN at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester and then in other hospitals in Denver, Colorado, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, until 1973 at which time she entered the Mayo Clinic School of Nurse Anesthesia, graduating in December of 1975. She practiced as a CRNA for the next 31 years at Saint Marys in Rochester (cardiovascular surgery), Metropolitan Medical Center in Minneapolis, and Fairview Southdale in Edina. She loved her profession and practiced with skill, integrity and compassion until her illness forced retirement too early. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Jonathan Egbert. She is survived by her four siblings: Charlotte (Jim) Carey of Eyota, MN, Steven (Jeanne) Hostert of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Joanne Hostert of Minneapolis, and Mark (Susan) Hostert of Bernard, Iowa, as well as two aunts and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her beloved Korat cat companion, NikNak. He has a wonderful new home and is thriving (thank you, Cindy). Barbara loved music, opera, movies, gardening, outdoor adventures, and all animals - wildlife and domestic but most especially cats. She had a special love for the American West, especially Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone. In the summer of 1973 she took a break from nursing and worked as a nanny for the children of the owners of the Triangle X Ranch in Grand Teton National Park. Her experiences there and in Jackson Hole lead to many later adventures of hiking, horseback camping in Yellowstone, whitewater rafting, and cross country skiing in the West. Barbara's family wishes to give special thanks to Carolynn Kiewatt of Simplify Wealth, the nursing staff of third floor at The Birches at Trillium Woods, the nursing staff at NC Little Hospice, and North Memorial Health Hospice service. Your kindness and superb care will never be forgotten. Barbara's last wish was to donate her body to Mayo Clinic for Parkinson's Disease research. Her bout with Covid 19 in April 2020 made that donation impossible. Memorials are suggested to Mayo Foundation for Parkinson's Disease research, Minnesota Public Radio, or Twin Cities Public Television. Memorial service 2:00 PM, visitation 1:30 PM, Tuesday, September 21 at the Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Avenue S., Edina, MN 55409 952-924-4100
