Obituary of Joseph Harry Townsend

Joseph Harry Townsend born March 28, 1943, died September 1, 2020. He was preceded in death by parents Margaret and Harold Townsend, brother Bill Townsend, and brother-in-law Vern Splinter.

Joe was born and raised primarily in Minneapolis with his four siblings. As a young boy he made great friends and found enjoyment by participating in all sports. A steadfast person, he remained lifelong friends with those he met so many years ago.

Joe was a proud Navy veteran serving from 1962 to 1965 and enjoyed wearing his U.S. Navy ball cap.

He cherished his three daughters, providing them decades of guidance, and gave unwavering support to them in all their years.

He adored the most patient woman in his life. He met his wife Linda in 2000 and together they shared time together traveling, playing cards, weekends at the camper, doting on their grandchildren, and cuddling their Yorkies.

Joe's valiant and positive attitude living with multiple myeloma for six years is an example from which anyone can learn. Keep the faith, stay positive, and laugh.

Those left to cherish memories of him include his wife Linda, of Ellsworth, WI, daughters Tracy (Paul) Johns, Treva Townsend, Julie (Mike) Plante, nine grandchildren (Sydney, Samantha, Gavin, Alyssa, Molly, Andrew, Benjamin, Margaret, Nicholas), and one great granddaughter (Brynley). Linda’s sons Jesse (Lisa) Thurmes, Jason (friend Stella) Thurmes, and four grandchildren (Mattie, Sam, Nadia, Hayden). Joe’s sisters Pat Splinter, Reggie Leyda, Ruth Regnier, and sister-in-law Carol Townsend. Linda’s brothers Milo (Renee) Whipple, Ira (Linda) Whipple, and Orville Whipple and sister-in-law Ann Whipple. His fur babies Toby and Tucker. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews who adored him, and countless good friends.

Go forth and fly on eagle’s wings; we will think of you every time we see one!

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
