Obituary of Donnie Lamb
Minneapolis, MN – On January 24th the world lost a truly unique soul when Glen Donaway “Donnie” Lamb passed away at the Minneapolis VA Hospital, leaving a permanent hole in the hearts of every person who has ever met him.
Being the son of an Air Force member, Donnie was born in Swindon, England to Jammie and Sharon Lamb, and grew up on the road as his father was stationed in Austin, TX and Wichita, KS. After his father retired, they moved to Thompson, IA where Donnie went through high school, being involved in sports, band, and various other activities.
After high school, Donnie lived in Minneapolis for a short while and then joined the Air Force where he served in California. After leaving the service, he began a career at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, working as a maintenance technician for over 20 years until his untimely passing.
Donnie was renowned for his sense of humor, his kind manner, and his ability to push anyone’s buttons with obscure facts you didn’t know he knew about you. He was a skilled craftsman who used his talents to help his friends and neighbors with any task they needed, and he never met a project he couldn’t conquer. He was the only man I ever knew to build a secret sliding bookshelf door in his house, just because it was cool. He dreamt big and worked hard to make his dreams come true.
He is preceded in death by his father. Left to cherish his memory is his constant companion and life partner of over 15 years, Jill Weglarz of Le Sueur, MN; his two sons: Derek of Burnsville, MN, and Nicolas and his partner Brianna and their son Asher of Burnsville, MN; his step-daughter Janelle Heppes and her husband Adam and their two children, Gavin and Charlee; his mother, Sharon K Swearingen Lamb of Austin, TX; his sister, Gayla Coppler and her husband Dave of Niceville, FL; and his two brothers: Dayne of Austin, TX and Bret and his wife Katherine of San Antonio, TX.
Donnie will receive full military honors at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 1:15pm on February 8th where we’re anticipating anything broken in the cemetery will be miraculously fixed by 4pm. There will be a reception and celebration of his life in the Executive Center of the Mall of America following the interment.
Donnie left this world too soon, and he will be missed greatly by everyone whose life he touched.
