Obituary of James Edward Martensen

Martensen, James Edward ("Boats") was born on November 11, 1943 in Slayton, MN. He served in the Navy as a Boatswain’s mate during the Vietnam War. After his return from Vietnam, Jim worked as a carpenter and joined the Carpenters Local 851, where he held the office of Secretary. He was also an avid motorcycle rider and was a national officer for the Bond Slaves Motorcycle Club. Jim also enjoyed scuba diving, horseback riding, hunting, spending time with family, friends and his parrot, Dusky. He passed away peacefully at CentraCare Hospital in St. Cloud, MN on January 17, 2019 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by parents, Elmer (“Ed”) and Audrey (“Smith”) Martensen and brother, Larry (CB) Martensen. He is survived by wife, Robin; son Mark (Helen) Martensen; daughter, Melissa (John) Wisher; brother Ron (Sheila) Martensen; grandchildren, Heather, Ashley, Nicholas, Lindsey and Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Piper, Julia, Lauren and Elizabeth; and many other relatives & friends. Service information to be announced. Celebration of Life Friday, February 1, 2019, 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Church Upon the Rock, 7901 Red Oak Drive, Mounds View, MN 55112. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers. Dates of Interment to be announced for late Spring at Fort Snelling followed by a memorial ride.
