Obituary of Anna Mae (Kohn) King
Anna Mae (Kohn) King, 95, died peacefully at Auburn Homes on Dec. 1, 2018 in Waconia. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. James, where Anna Mae was a life-long member. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m. with lunch and fellowship afterward. Pastor Martin Lopahs will officiate. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Anna Mae’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Lutheran school at 315 9th Street South St. James, MN 56081. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Auburn Homes and Ridgeview Hospice for their care and dedication. Anna Mae was born on Oct. 25, 1923 in Riverdale Township near St. James, to Henry and Emma (Appel) Kohn. Anna Mae married her sweetheart, Orville King, on June 24, 1944. They welcomed four children: John, Robert, David, and Marilyn. Anna Mae and Orville farmed together for several years near St. James. They were co-workers in the meat business at the LaSalle locker plant before starting their own business, King’s Foodland, in St. James. After Orville died in 1964, Anna Mae worked at Tony Downs Foods until her retirement in 1987 at age 64. After retirement, she lived in St. Louis Park, to be near family. She resided in Waconia, for the past 13 years. Family meant the world to Anna Mae. She often shared fond memories of her maternal grandfather, Frank Appel, who immigrated to the United States from Austria in 1874 and her beloved mother, Emma. She dearly loved her close-knit family and it was a focus of life as they gathered for every birthday and many special occasions, as well as helping each other on the farm or to play a game of Parcheesi or cards. There was always good food and laughter involved! Anna Mae was a caring mother and she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved people, made friends quickly wherever she went, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Anna Mae enjoyed animals (especially birds, dogs and goats). She was a collector of porcelain dolls and Lake Superior Agates. In addition, Anna Mae cherished her travel opportunities including Hawaii, Florida, Nashville, The Black Hills, and her annual trip to Lake Superior with her daughter. As a proud member of the Everly Brothers fan club, Anna Mae treasured music – especially hymns, 50′s music, and classic country. Anna Mae’s family will remember her for her love, laughter and her hugs. Anna Mae is survived by her children, John King of St. Cloud, Robert (Bev) King of Charles City, Iowa, David King residing at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home (Minneapolis) and Marilyn (Mike) Panzer of Watertown; 10 grandchildren: Brian (Jennifer) Riggle, Ryan King, Sarah (Obiri) Yeboah, Mitch King, Nathan King, Joel (Haley) King, Gabriel (Alana) King, Nicole (Dustin) Swann, Mary (Josh) Gallus and Jesse (Shaina) Panzer; 18 great grandchildren: David Riggle, Trevor and Jason Johnson, Simone and Lydia Yeboah, Elias King, Gillian King, Skylar, Trevor and Liam King, Dylan and Will Filippo, Gavin and Parker Swann, Zackery, Matthew and Jonathan Gallus, and Rylie Bolte; former daughters-in-law Darlene Riggle, Jeanie Daisy and Beatrice King; and many nieces and nephews. She loved them all. Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband Orville; parents: Henry and Emma Kohn; siblings: Vera (Pete) Kriesch, Violet (Bert) Firchau, Vylla (Lester) Marsden, Reuben (Ona) Kohn, Hank (Vernelle) Kohn; brothers-in-law, Vernon (Clara) King and Bill (Maggie) King; many nieces and nephews, and her furry canine friend, Rupert.
