Daniel Lukken

Obituary of Daniel Lukken

Daniel J. Lukken, 74, of Oliver WI, passed away on April 19, 2024 at Essentia Health in Duluth from congestive heart failure. Dan was born on December 2, 1949 to Farrell and Jeanette Lukken in Mankato, MN. He  graduated from Nashwauk High School, and a few weeks later (age 17) he joined the Army  where he served as a UH1C helicopter crew chief for two tours in Vietnam. Following his military service, he reconnected with his high school girlfriend, Christine  Henderson, and they married in 1971. Their son, Randy, was welcomed in 1977.

Dan was a talented pipefitter/welder who worked at Boise Cascade’s paper mill in International Falls, and in 1987 moved to Duluth for work at Lake Superior Paper Industry. After retirement,  Dan and Chris enjoyed traveling in their cozy little Casita camper. While living up north, Dan and Chris enjoyed sailing on Rainy Lake. Dan was passionate about grouse hunting in the north woods with the Pissmeyer clan for over 40 years, and missed it  terribly when he was unable to continue.

He’ll be missed by those ‘brothers’ - Jim, Tony, Todd,  Bruce, Stanley, Scott and Jim. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Laura Lynne and Karen Lee.

He is  survived by wife Christine, son Randy (Denise Salo), brothers Jim (Caron), Tony (Joyce), and  Todd, and his sister Patty Ball (Chuck). He also loved being “Grandpa Danny” to Rosella and  Sebastian McCourtney.

We will gather to remember Dan on Saturday, June 1 from noon to 4:00 at the Oliver Town Hall, 2125 E State St, Oliver WI.
