Gordon C. Huisinga, age 97 of Minnetonka, MN, went home to be with the Lord on August, 24, 2026, passing away peacefully in his sleep.

Raised on a farm in Aplington, Iowa, Gordon later attended Sioux Falls College, graduating in 1950, and taught one year of high school in Hills, MN. He participated in sports and theater, and travelled the country singing in the seminary quartet with his deep, bass voice.

Feeling called to the gospel ministry, he graduated from the North American Baptist Seminary, Sioux Falls, SD in 1954. Gordon faithfully pastored churches in South Dakota, Ohio, New Jersey, North Dakota, Pennsylvania and Iowa. He was married to Betty Simmons in June 1960 in NJ where they ministered together and added three children to their family in three years. After serving in Turtle Lake, ND for five years, he served for 23 years as pastor of First Baptist Church in Wishek, ND, where he and Betty raised their family.

Gordon loved God, loved people and loved life! He was an outdoorsman, avid fisherman and naturalist, identifying many birds, plants and trees. He was a craftsman, building several boats; a woodworker, carving birds; a mechanic, repairing cars and boat motors; and resourceful, a depression era child. He especially enjoyed young people. He cheered his kids on in their sports, often driving the high school team or fan bus to away games, in later years cheering for his grandkids.

The last congregation he served was in Elgin, Iowa, former home of his mother and grandparents. In retirement, he enjoyed fellowship with the Kings Folk class at New Hope Church, which he occasionally taught. He fished Medicine Lake and Lake Minnetonka with his fishing buddies, and family. He spent his final years at Maranatha Care Center, Brooklyn Center, MN. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Gordon was preceded in death by parents Claude and Edith; brothers Paul(Lucy Mae) and Myrlin(Burdell). Survived by Betty, his loving wife of 66 years; sons Daniel (Lynette) of Kansas City, MO; Timothy (Carmen) of Coon Rapids, MN; daughter Sharon (Peter) Hedstrom of Plymouth, MN; 12 grandkids and 20 great grandkids.

Memorial service Friday, September 11 at New Hope Church, 4225 Gettysburg Ave N, New Hope, MN; Visitation 10 AM, Service 11 AM, Lunch 12 noon.
