November 13, 1947 – August 24, 2026

Stephen Jonathan Wentworth, age 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 24, 2026.

Steve was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on November 13, 1947. He graduated from Johnson High School and later graduated from college in River Falls, Wisconsin, where he also had the opportunity to study abroad. His career took him to Buffalo, New York, and eventually back to Minnesota, where he retired from the American Red Cross in 2010.

Steve’s life was marked by a deep and unwavering faith in Jesus. Through many health challenges, he persevered, always giving the Lord all the glory and praise. He was a faithful prayer warrior who loved praying for his family, friends, and those around him. His faith was not simply something he spoke about—it was the foundation of his life.

Steve was a lifelong student of God’s Word. Faith and Scripture were important to him from his earliest years. He faithfully attended Sunday school throughout his life and loved reading and studying the Bible, asking questions, digging deeper into Scripture, and continually growing in his understanding of the Lord. His desire was not simply to know the Bible, but to live it. He loved talking about Scripture and sharing what he was learning with others.

Steve had a servant’s heart from a young age. He spent many years as a camp counselor at Camp Lebanon, investing in young people and sharing his faith with them. That heart for service continued throughout his life. At church, he faithfully served through the mission commission, greeting, men’s mentorship, family council, prayer, and countless behind-the-scenes opportunities. He willingly gave his time, energy, and gifts wherever they were needed, never seeking recognition. Serving others was simply an expression of his love for Jesus.

Steve loved God’s creation and loved to travel. He enjoyed majestic mountains and skiing, peaceful lakes and boating, and ocean views and sandy beaches—preferably from the shade :). He loved exploring new places and returning to old favorites, making memories with family and friends along the way.

Steve also had a great love for music and singing. His family often sang together, and their home was filled with music and voices raised in song. Steve shared that joy with others by singing at many family and friends’ weddings, including his own wedding to Louise. His voice and love of music became part of many cherished memories.

Steve’s earthly journey came to a peaceful close at home as he slept, just as he had prayed it would, with his beloved wife, Louise. Though his family grieves his absence, they rejoice knowing that Steve is now in the presence of his Savior, where there is no more pain, suffering, or sorrow.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, G. Dwight Wentworth and Alice Laurie Johnson; and his siblings, Barb (Roger), Arlene, and David.

He is survived by his loving wife, Louise; children, Sam, Matt (Kris), and Trisha (Nate); sister, Sylvia (Ray), brother-in-law, Ray and sister-in-law Bev; five grandchildren, Austin (Sophia), Harley, Elliot, Cash (Kylie), and Millie; and two great-grandchildren, Hudson and Liam, along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Steve leaves behind a legacy of faith, perseverance, gratitude, prayer, love, service, music, and a life that continually pointed others toward Jesus. His family takes comfort in the promise of Scripture:

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your master.” — Matthew 25:23

Steve has finished his race and kept the faith. He is home.
