Brilliant, kind, and generous, Janice Post-White, 70, of Minneapolis, MN, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on August 2, 2026.

She was born in Chippawa Falls, WI in 1955 to Doris (Roder) and Vernon Post, along with her beloved twin brother Jerry who preceded her in death (2014). With her dear husband Duane to whom she was married for 49 years, Janice made the Twin Cities her home. There they brought up their two wonderful sons, Brennan and Tyler. Janice was a devoted mother who adored both of her sons.

Janice was caring and inquisitive, so she naturally gravitated to a career in nursing and science. A cancer nurse who completed PhD studies in psychoneuroimmunology, she was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and was an American Cancer Society Professor of Oncology Nursing at the University of Minnesota for many years, teaching and researching integrative cancer therapies and how the mind communicates with the body. Her understanding of cancer profoundly deepened through her personal experience as a parent of a child with cancer.

A gifted writer, Janice authored dozens of academic papers and popular articles as well as a book. Her memoir, Standing at Water’s Edge: A Cancer Nurse, Her Four-Year-Old Son and the Shifting Tides of Leukemia, won first place in Consumer Health for the American Journal of Nursing 2022 Book of the Year Awards.

Hawaii has held a special place in Janice’s heart over the decades. Her family has had a second home on Lanai where she delighted in swimming with spinner dolphins and hiking. There, and in those experiences, she felt most alive and connected with the universe.

Janice loved animals and enjoyed her backyard oasis and the many four-legged and winged visitors. The most precious of all was her buddy, Jack, a feral one-eyed orange tabby cat who has been lovingly at her side and on her bed.

She is survived by her husband and sons, her mother, sister Elaine, brother Ted and sister-in-law Cathy, extended family, and dear friends – all who will miss her kindness and radiant spirit. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Janice’s memory may be made to The Minnesota Zoo Foundation, Marine Mammal Center (for the benefit of Ke Kai Ola) or the Lanai Cat Sanctuary.
