Brian Gerald Urban Obituary

Brian Gerald Urban, 72, passed away on August 1, 2026, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.

Born on August 27, 1953, to Gerhardt and Sylvia Urban, Brian grew up in Lewisville, Minnesota, where he helped on the family dairy farm and farmed the land alongside his father. He later built a career in the sanitation industry and was known throughout his life for his strong work ethic, determination, and resilience.

Brian's life was marked by remarkable perseverance. As a two-time organ transplant recipient, he was given the gift of additional years that allowed him to continue creating memories with the people he loved. Despite a lifetime of medical complexities, Brian never let his health challenges define him or slow him down.

Above all else, Brian was a devoted and proud grandfather. He could often be found at the hockey rink or soccer field cheering on his grandson, Jayce, who held a very special place in his heart. Whether in the stands or on the sidelines, Brian was undoubtedly Jayce's number one fan.

A passionate supporter of Minnesota State Maverick Hockey, Brian was a longtime season ticket holder and proud member of the Maverick community. His dedication to the team was so great that he even displayed the Maverick logo on his prosthetic leg. He enjoyed classic cars, classic rock music, fishing, attending the races, watching TV Land, playing cribbage, and spending time in California.

Brian will be remembered for his strength, his German stubbornness, witty one-liners and ability to find joy despite life's challenges. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, caregivers, and fellow members of the Maverick hockey community.

In accordance with his wishes, Brian will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered in the ocean. There will be no formal service at this time, but a Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on September 12th from 9am - 12pm at VINE Adult Community Center in Mankato, MN. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Brian's memory may contribute toward fulfilling his final wish through his memorial page at: https://everloved.com/life-of/brian-urban/?flow=264.

As a recipient of both a liver and kidney transplant, Brian understood firsthand the life-changing impact of organ donation. The family hopes that those inspired by his journey will consider registering as organ donors, helping to provide hope and the gift of life to others in need.
