Charles (Chuck) Floyd DeVet passed away peacefully in New Richmond, WI, on July 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering dedication to supporting others.

Born on April 27, 1939, in Escanaba, MI, Chuck was the son of Charles V. and Eleanor (Derwin) DeVet. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Reece Anthony; his wife of 51 years, Patricia Ann "Patty" (Nelson) DeVet; and his sister, Annette Benidt.

Chuck is survived by his son, Roberto (Catherine Klarkowski); daughters Linda (James Curtis), Annetta (Joss Berrett), and Sumei; honorary daughter Thao Nguyen; six grandchildren, Camille, Sebastien, Ricardo, Sabreena, Antonio, and Reece Vincent; and three great-grandchildren, Hailey, Lacey, and Dylan.

Chuck believed that helping others was what you did if you could. Whether coaching a youth team, mentoring a young person, opening his heart through adoption, or supporting children halfway around the world, he approached life with generosity, humility, a warm smile, and a heart that was always open to others. He found great joy in seeing people succeed and never sought recognition for the difference he made.

Chuck spent his youth in Saint Paul, where he attended Saint Paul Central High School. As captain and quarterback of the Minutemen football team, he demonstrated leadership that would define much of his life. Years later, he was inducted into the school's Alumni Hall of Fame in recognition of his philanthropic work.

After high school, Chuck joined the U.S. Army as a medic before continuing his service in the Army Reserves. Thanks to the GI Bill, he graduated from the University of Minnesota, where he served as President of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and formed many lifelong friendships. He also remained a devoted Gopher fan throughout his life.

In 1967, Chuck accepted a position as a warehouse manager in Portland, Oregon, where he met the love of his life, Patty, on a blind date. Six months later, they were married. He somehow convinced her to drive her Mustang back to Minnesota, where they would build a life together. In 1978, they purchased a red brick home on Spring Lake in Prior Lake, where they would live together until Patty's passing in 2019. Together, Chuck and Patty built a home filled with love, laughter, family, and a commitment to helping others. Their generosity touched countless lives within their community and beyond.

Chuck went on to build a successful career in banking and finance spanning nearly four decades. Throughout his career, he held leadership roles with several major financial institutions, including Security Pacific Bank, Banc One Corporation, and Wells Fargo. Known for his integrity, steady leadership, and strong work ethic, he retired in 2001, allowing him to devote even more of his time and energy to his family, community, and the work that would become his greatest passion.

Chuck was an active volunteer through P.L.A.Y., coaching hundreds of young people in football and softball throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. He also served on the Board of Crossroads Adoption Services, through which he adopted three of his children. For several years, he was also a Big Brother mentor to Tom, a relationship he deeply valued.

In 2001 Chuck and his daughter Annetta co-founded Humanitarian Services for Children of Vietnam (HSCV) with a simple mission of helping children stay in school. Neither could have imagined that this simple idea would become the defining work of Chuck's later years.

What began with scholarships for just 20 children has grown over the past 25 years into an organization supporting hundreds of children and families each year through education, youth development, livelihood programs, and community initiatives. Few things brought Chuck greater pride than seeing young people given opportunities they otherwise may have never had.

Chuck will be cremated and placed to rest next to his bride, son, mother and father at the Spring Lake Cemetery, one block away from the red brick house.

A celebration of life is to be announced at a later date.
