Charles Andrew DeVries Obituary
Charles Andrew DeVries went home to be with his Savior on July 28, 2026, at the age of 94.
Chuck was born on April 9, 1932, in St. Joseph, Michigan, to Alice and Andrew DeVries. He grew up near the shores of Lake Michigan, living next door to his grandparents' farm, where he developed an appreciation for family, hard work, and the outdoors.
He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and participated in the ROTC program. Following graduation, Chuck proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1957. During his military service, he was stationed in England.
On October 10, 1959, Chuck married the love of his life, Carol Anderson. Their relationship flourished through years of long-distance courtship while they lived in different states. Together they built a loving marriage and family that spanned more than six decades.
Over the years, Chuck and Carol made their home in Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota. They spent many years raising their family in Davenport, Iowa. After their children had grown and settled in Minnesota, Chuck and Carol relocated there to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and Carol's siblings and extended family.
Chuck will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his devotion to his family, his service to his country, and the quiet strength and integrity with which he lived his life. His legacy lives on through the generations of family he loved so deeply.
Preceded in death by his wife Carol DeVries, and his parents, Andrew and Alice DeVries.
Survived by children Kris (Bob) Sullivan, Jim (Deb) DeVries, Beth (Steen) Erickson; Grandchildren Luke (Katie) Sullivan, Austin (Katelyn) Sullivan, Jackson (Becca) Sullivan, Bailey Sullivan, Sam (Taylor) DeVries, Julia DeVries, Klara (Sam Carlson) DeVries, Anna (Trent) Erickson, Jake Erickson, and many great grandchildren, and his sister, Elaine Mick.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at The Orchards of Minnetonka for the compassionate care they provided to Chuck during the final chapter of his life. They are also thankful for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Carol during the last four years of her life. Their dedication and support brought great comfort to Chuck, Carol, and their family.
He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
