Rose Marie Babcock Obituary
Rose Marie Babcock of Bayport and formerly of Minneapolis and Brownsville, TX peacefully entered the loving arms of the Lord Jesus Christ on July 6, 2026. Her three living daughters were faithfully by her side praying, singing and reading Psalms the last few days up until her last breath.
Rose was born February 10, 1931 to Charles and Clara Hansen in Farmington, MN. Rose’s youth was spent on the farm with fond memories of hard work, walking 2 miles to school and 6 miles to town. She spent her summers picking berries in the backwoods and swimming in the ponds after a hard rain. At 19 she ran a resort in Starbuck, MN on Lake Minnewaska and she always loved to fish and swim.
On New Years Eve 1953/1954 at the Spring Inn in NE Mpls, Rose met her husband Bill, who was in the Army on leave. When he returned in March he proposed, and they were married while on a 9 day leave. They were reunited again in October when she traveled by Ocean liner to meet him in Germany. Their son Jim was born in Baumholder Germany in June 1955. When they returned to the United States with an infant son and unborn daughter, her large family was just beginning. Living in Minneapolis, Rose is remembered as the best mom who demonstrated what God’s love is by being faithful in her marriage and diligently raising six children. There was always room for friend’s & neighbors to stay and/ or share in a meal.
In retirement years they traveled America mostly by car, always ready with a thermos of coffee. She was a premier copilot as she never actually had a driver’s license. Wintering in Brownsville TX for several years. She spent the final chapter of her life in Bayport MN enjoying the small town & community, even fishing on the St. Croix River.
She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Clara, sisters Myrtle, Daisy, and Violet, brothers Charles and David, Husband Albert (Bill), Daughter Gloria Jean, Son Thomas Leeroy.
She is survived by children: James (Peggy), Bonita (James) Hoffman, Marjorie (Allan), Sharon (Timothy) McCabe, Grandchildren: Kristina Martin, Jacob (Amber), Katie (Greg) Weeks, Robert (Samantha) Hoffman, Alyson (Nicholas) Calo, Taylor (Lexy) McCabe, Dumaine (Brennen), Zachary (Summer), Joseph, Alexander (Meghan), Alaura (William) Babcock-Berndt, 16 great grandchildren and one on the way, along with many nieces and nephews and extended family.
