Passed peacefully on July 7, 2026 at age 92. Formerly of Bird Island and Plymouth, MN.

     Survived by wife Judy and daughters Kelli (Eddie Timanus) ,Sonja (Mark Peterson) grandson Evan Timanus and many friends and family.

     Barney was born to Iver and Lillian Barnaal and grew up with brother Ivan in Bird Island. He worked a variety of jobs including building bridges in the Twin Cities, construction and a brief time as a sheep farmer. Most recently, he worked as a barber in Golden Valley for 34 years. Barney was a proud veteran of the US Army. He was a longtime active member of Spirit of Hope UMC.

     After retirement, Barney enjoyed ice fishing, walking and woodworking and travelling the U.S. with Judy. Together they logged over 2800 hours volunteering. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, kind heart and warm smile.

     Special thanks to the staff of Our Lady of Peace Hospice in Saint Paul and Ecumen Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice of St. Paul or donor’s choice.
