Gordon Anthony Granmoe

Gordy was born to Albert M. & Frances Burlovich Granmoe on May 11, 1943. He grew up on east 8th Street, graduated from Central in 1961, then joined the 148th in Duluth, being part of their Crash & Rescue unit.

Gordy & Kathleen were married in 1970, sharing 56 wonderful years together in the suburbs of Floodwood. There they raised their two daughters, Geri (Tom) Murphy of Rochester, MN and Kristine (Hugh) O’Brien of Plano, TX. In time came the blessing of our granddaughter, Keara (Nick) Wingert of Rochester and then the light of everyone’s life, great granddaughter Maisie Kay, born almost on Great Grandpa’s birthday, May 10th, a year ago.

His career was in industrial sales, being the youngest rep for Modern Distributors, Branch Manager at Satterlee Co., then retiring from Grainger. This career made him lifelong friends across all of northern Minnesota.

Gordy loved to hunt & fish… this was his 50th consecutive year being part of his beloved fish & duck camp: Subigosh Lodge. He hunted moose in Canada & elk in Alaska with his friend Jim Jenski, using the Tundra Buggy that Gord built with his other friends George and Dale. He & his hunting partners traveled to New Mexico, Colorado & Wyoming for mule deer & elk, as well as pheasants & ducks in the Dakotas. He fished for walleyes in various lakes around Minnesota & Canada, as well as Lake Superior for trout & salmon.

We enjoyed traveling with our fifth wheel, making longtime close friends camping in the Hill Country of Texas. We cruised & camped with the girls, as well as making two trips to Norway.

Gordy was an excellent woodworker, building two "old man" deer stands in the back 80, was a prolific reader, and could do or fix anything.

After retiring, Gordy became Office Manager and Recorder at AAD Shrine for over 10 years and Project Manager when they built the Shriner’s building in Hermantown. His managerial skills were amazing. In the past he enjoyed his time on the church council at Hope Lutheran, being usher with his many buds, & putting up with all the projects that Management was doing.

Gordy was preceded in death by his first wife Judy, his parents, & a sister at birth. He will forever be so loved and dearly missed…

Gordy’s Celebration of Life will be held at the AAD Shrine Event Center, 5152 Miller Trunk Highway in Hermantown on Thursday, July 23rd.
