Clarence Martin Johannesson Obituary
Clarence Martin Gunnar (Clancy) Johannesson, age 87, of Superior, WI, born to Brynjolfur (Bennie) and Bjorg (Bee) Johannesson in Mountain, ND, on March 3,1939. He was the loving father of sons; Derek, Kevin, and Cory Johannesson, and daughter, Sophia, who were raised in the Duluth/Superior area, passed away on July 4, 2026, and is now with his Lord and Savior. Following 20 years of service in the United States Air Force, serving in many areas of the world during his time including; Iceland and the Pentagon, he began a new career in the insurance industry working with Physicians Mutual for more than 30 years. He had a special pridein his Icelandic heritage and his "hometown" of Mountain, ND. He was a member of the Pembina County VFW/American Legion. He was a part of each of the Memorial Day parades held in that area with this association. He loved spending time with every generation of his Icelandic family through the years; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He enjoyed traveling and spending his time at his Briar Lake cabin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Bee; beloved daughter Sophia; sisters Sandy Thompson and Peggy Johannesson; and brother Kenny.
Clarence is survived by his sons Derek, Kevin, and Cory Johannesson; grandchildren Daniel and Corrie-Lynn; sister Birdeen (Deena) Putnam (Monroe); and brother Conrad (Eric). As well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and his wife, mother of Sophia, Fotoula.
The family would like to thank Clancy's very special friend, Sue Roberts for all of her support over the past 20 years. Also, to Dr. David Arvold, for his care throughout Clancy's health issues.
A private family memorial service will be held on August 7, 2026 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, at 11:00 am, with a visitation one hour prior. A burial at the MN State Veteran's Cemetery in Saginaw, MN, will follow.
