Laurie Halgren Obituary

Laurie Halgren, born Laurie Grenier on September 21, 1951, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, passed on July 1, 2026. Laurie was a warm, compassionate person whose life was a testament to the enduring power of love and kindness.

Laurie was the middle child of Chester and Norma Grenier, who instilled in her a deep sense of care and community. A graduate of Breckenridge High School in 1969, Laurie pursued her passion for helping others by obtaining her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree from the Minnesota Board of Nursing in 1972 and later from the State of Iowa in 1977. Her commitment to caring for others led her back to the classroom, where she earned her Registered Nurse degree in Minnesota in 1990, further equipping her to provide comfort and support to those in need.

Laurie married Gary Halgren in 1973. They had two children, Chris and Angie, whom they raised together first as partners in marriage and later as enduring friends and co-parents. Laurie’s greatest joy was undoubtedly her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, delighting in the company of her four grandchildren.

Laurie had a remarkable ability to see the good in every person and to engage in uplifting conversations with strangers. Her love for nature and animals was profound, and she took solace in the beauty of the natural world.

Laurie's legacy is lovingly carried on by her son, Chris, and his wife Kristen; her daughter, Angie; her brother, Kelly, and his wife Sandy; along with her cherished grandchildren, who will forever remember the warmth of her hugs, her kind words, and her unwavering support.

In honor of Laurie’s boundless love for animals, the family kindly suggests that memorial donations be made to the Animal Humane Society in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a reflection of her enduring compassion and commitment to nurturing all living beings.

Laurie Halgren's life was a tapestry of love, kindness, and dedicated service to others. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Visitors may find her resting place in the beautiful and peaceful Garden of Remembrance, Section 56 Lot 18A, at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
