Nelson"Mark" Filipi passed away on June 14 at age 71 after a long battle with cancer. Mark proudly worked for many years in transportation forecasting at the Metropolitan Council. For fun he enjoyed reading science fiction, studying World War II, and using his amateur (ham) radio. A dedicated public servant, Mark also flew in the Civil Air

Patrol, led Boy Scouts, and served on both the Park Board and Planning Commission in Eagan. Mark excelled in the kitchen, preparing delicious meals and teaching family members to cook.

Mark is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Marty; children Jenny (Nathan) Poole and Nick (Megan) Filipi; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Arlene Filipi. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 29th at The Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina, MN 55435. Visitation starts at 2 p.m., and a reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) for ham radio operators or the ARRL Foundation.
