Edward Curtis (Curt) Roeder Obituary

Edward Curtis (Curt) Roeder

Edward Curtis “Curt” Roeder, age 67, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully at home on May 22, 2026, after a long illness.

Curt was born on November 16, 1958, in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada. He was the first son of Edward Lewis Kellerman and Mary Elizabeth Roeder (Curtis).  He was later adopted by Russell Earl Roeder.

A longtime resident and proud champion of Minneapolis, Curt built a meaningful life grounded in intellect, passion for justice, and deep loyalty to family, friends, and community.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, followed by a Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell School of Law (now Mitchell Hamline School of Law).

Although he thought of pursuing environmental law, Curt found his professional calling in insurance law and litigation. An avid and voracious reader, he approached cases with meticulous research and detail, contributing to favorable rulings by the Minnesota Supreme Court. He was also co-founder of his own law firm Roeder, Smith, and Jaden now Smith, Jaden and Johnson.

Curt was a legendary Wisconsin sports fan. He followed Badger Football to multiple Rose Bowl appearances, proudly donning a cheesehead and Bucky red and white. The first week of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament was sacred time at Curt’s house. A longtime Green Bay Packers supporter and stockholder, he made many cold-weather pilgrimages to Lambeau Field as a proud season ticket holder.

Curt was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his younger siblings: Kevin John Roeder (Amy) of Midland, Michigan, and Kathleen "Kate" Roeder Cristobal (Armando) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his nieces and nephew Gabriela Cristobal (Meheer) of New York, New York; Sydney Roeder Chenevix-Trench (Marcus) of London, England; Sophie Roeder of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Benjamin Roeder of Phoenix, Arizona; along with many cousins, including Joseph Curtis of St. Paul, Minnesota; Sally Meade (Roy) and Matthew Curtis of Antigo, Wisconsin; Camille (Travis) Curtis of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Christian (Megan) Curtis of Arvada, Colorado. Curt also leaves behind a wide circle of friends from high school, college, and the Twin Cities area.

Finally, Curt will be missed by his beloved canine companions, Quanah and Strider, who will remain together with relatives until the day they are reunited with Curt.

A celebration of Curt’s life is planned for Saturday, August 15, 2026 1pm-5pm at the Cremation Society of Minnesota in St. Paul. For detailed information, please email the family at ecurtisroeder@gmail.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Minneapolis Animal Care and Control or to an environmental charity of your choice.
