Patricia “Pat” Coons, age 70, died at United Hospital, Saint Paul on May 28, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with multiple health concerns. Though her life was cut short, her family finds comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain. She will be missed beyond measure.

Pat was born on May 17, 1956 in New Hampton, Iowa, to Ed and Shirley Kane. She grew up in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Later, she welcomed her twins, Chuck and Christie, followed by her youngest daughter, Michelle.

In 2000, Pat moved back to Brooklyn Park to live with and care for her parents. During that time, she met the love of her life and soulmate, Richard “Rick” Coons. The two were united in marriage on August 22, 2009, and together built a beautiful life at their beloved lake home on Eagle Lake, where Pat spent the remainder of her years.

Pat worked at Walmart for many years before stepping away to become the devoted primary caregiver for her parents, lovingly caring for each of them until their passing and ensuring they were able to remain comfortable at home.

Pat found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved birdwatching, especially the visits from a pileated woodpecker she affectionately named “Woody,” whom she looked forward to seeing each day. She adored her pets, and rarely wanted to be anywhere without them. She enjoyed watching medical programs, especially Untold Stories of the ER, and treasured discussing them with her oldest granddaughter. Above all, Pat deeply loved her family and took great pride in hearing about the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Shirley Kane, and her grandparents.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard “Rick” Coons of Maple Lake; her children: Chuck (Becky Sexton) Guggisberg of New Ulm, Christie (Chris) Schablin of Redwood Falls, and Michelle (Lisa) Place of Lakefield; her stepchildren: Bobby (Shari) Coons of Maple Plain, Russ (Melissa) Coons of Elk River, and Barb (Mark) Sims of Van Wert, Ohio; five cherished grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her 3 siblings Mark, Pam and Tom; and many nieces and nephews.
