Mary Ann Smith Obituary
Mary Ann Smith, 86, Eden Prairie and Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully in her home on May 5, 2026, with her family at her side.
Mary Ann Smith was born to Harold and Vivian (Slick) Jarman in Milbank, SD, on August 11, 1939. She grew up on the family farm near Wilmot , SD, the oldest of three daughters. As the eldest daughter, she was enlisted to help on the farm with plowing, planting, caring for the animals and working on tractors and cars. After high school Mary Ann married and had three children: LeAnn, Mark and Michele. Mary Ann’s strength, independence, kindness and quiet determination defined her life. Her legacy of love and resilience will live on through her family and all those she touched.
She raised her children in Plymouth, MN, and began a trailblazer career at SuperValu where she became the first female director in the company. During her 33-year tenure at SuperValu, she earned widespread respect for her leadership, dedication and strong work ethic. Mary Ann had many talents (cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, woodworking and mechanical to name a few). She could fix just about anything! She used these gifts well to serve others throughout her life. She was a fun mother and grandmother, loved welcoming people into her home and was always available to others.
The most important thing in Mary Ann’s life was her faith in Jesus. She served her Lord in many ways and was very involved in many groups at St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
Second to faith was her family. She loved entertaining family and friends at her cabin on Camp Lake. Her children and grandchildren have many wonderful memories of Grandma pulling them behind her pontoon boat, fishing, sitting around the campfire and playing cards or board games.
Survivors include her children, LeAnn Smith, Mark Smith and Michele (Brian) Obermeier; sisters, Dorie Cummins and Angie Hippen; grandchildren, Hannah Hohbein, Jacob Smith, Philip Smith, Joe (Elissa) Barker, Natali (Jesse) Evans, Angela (Matthew) Soderlind, Kyle (Brooke) Barker, Lindsay Kinney, Grant Barker and Chas Obermeier; great-grandchildren, Judah and Elowen Barker and Vincent, Violet and Vera Barker; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
