Margaret (Peggy) Fritz Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) Mary Fritz September 10, 1931 – May 3, 2026

Margaret Mary Linn was born in Saint Nicholas, Minnesota to Henry and Margaret (Rajkowski) Linn. Her mother liked to say that it was so hot that day that you could fry an egg on the sidewalk! She was very tiny at birth and supposedly could have used a shoebox as a bassinet.

Peggy was the youngest of six children (Marcella, Ervin, Fred, Mary, Jeanette) and grew up on the family farm. She attended a one room country school through grade 8, then attended Cathedral High School in St. Cloud, graduating in 1949. Peggy was married to Robert Fritz from 1951 to 1964 and they had six children. After Bob left, she raised them on her own as a single mother, making her family her main focus.

Once all the children were in school, Peggy held a variety of jobs, but her main career for 27 years was serving as a secretary for the Counseling Department of Anoka Hennepin Technical College. She was fiercely independent and determined to do everything she possibly could on her own – perhaps that trait helped her raise six children by herself and live to be 94.

Family was extremely important to Peggy. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with family or friends, spending time at the family cabins, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and playing games, especially cards. She had a green thumb and appreciated the beauty of plants and flowers. She was a great cook and baker, known to some as “Cookie Grandma” and to others as one of the great “Pie Ladies”. She had a sense of humor that showed up in a wry comment or a silly trick – often followed by a grin.

Peggy passed away peacefully in the home she shared for twelve years with her daughter Diane and son-in-law, Jamie, in Victoria, Minnesota. Her six children are Mark Fritz (Sue), Scott Fritz (Bonnie), Lynn Holbrook (Tom), Brian Fritz (Joan), Diane Crannell (Jamie), and Steve Fritz (Lois). Peggy also has 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, soon to be 22.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers Fred and Ervin, sisters Marcella and Mary, daughter-in-law Bernice and her son Steve.

Funeral services will be at St. Victoria Catholic Church (8228 Victoria Drive, Victoria, MN 55386) on Tuesday, May 19 with a visitation at 10:00 and service at 11:00.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her name to the service dog organization Helping Paws Minnesota (https://www.helpingpaws.org/donation).
