Shirley Anne Surratt Obituary
Shirley Anne (Stauber) Surratt, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, with her devoted daughter by her side.
Born on August 1, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Shirley lived a long and meaningful life marked by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was truly a force of nature—unyielding in her bold strength, determination, and grace. Known for her kind heart and generous spirit, Shirley extended care to everyone around her and was affectionately known to many as “Ma” or their second mom.
Throughout her life, Shirley found purpose in traveling and riding motorcycles with her husband Pat, caring deeply for her family, and working hard in a variety of roles, including waitress, bartender, bouncer, and building manager. Her personal passions brought her simple joy: going garage saling, watching her beloved “soaps,” reading murder mysteries, journaling, and keeping in touch with friends through heartfelt letter writing.
Shirley always had a good story to tell—about where she had been, what she had seen, and how she had lived—leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Shirley was the heart and center of her family, a steady presence and a constant source of comfort and advice. Her legacy lives on through the memories, values, and traditions she shared so generously.
Shirley is survived by her children Debra Surratt (Charles), Randy Surratt, Brenda Surratt (Curt), and Michelle Ha; her grandchildren Shannon Doll (Brian), Shayne Athey (Cecily), Charles Athey Jr., Derek Athey, Selena Young (Trey), Joseph “Joey”Bjornstad, Elaine Ha (Jake), and Katelynn Ha (Jake); her great‑grandchildren Brittney, Brianna (Jonathan), Mariah, Anna, Tori, Alex, Michael, Jaxon, River, Chasity, Charles III, Tristan, Aubree, and Alaia; her great‑great‑grandchildren Aiden and Delilah; her brother Eugene Stauber; as well as nieces Elizabeth and Annie, and nephew Eugene Stauber Jr.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ellis “Pat” Surratt, and her grandson, Jay Travis Taggetz Surratt.
“Mom, thank you for loving us fiercely, teaching us strength, and showing us how to live life on our own terms. We'll see ya when we see ya."
