Timothy Charles Gilbertson, age 66, of St. Paul, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his children. Tim was born on March 6,1960. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Susan Gilbertson (Firkus), and his parents, Jack and Lorraine Gilbertson. He is survived by his sons, Erik Gilbertson (Hannaha) and Jack Gilbertson (fiancée Myah), along with many other family members and friends. Tim’s sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Tim was a lifelong resident of St. Paul and spent most of his life on the West Side, a community he was deeply proud to call home. He graduated from Humboldt High School, where he played both hockey and baseball. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota, earning his BA in history, and dedicated more than 20 years to teaching junior high and middle school students in the St. Paul Public School system.

Tim married his high school sweetheart, Susan Gilbertson (Firkus), and together they raised two great sons. He had a lifelong love of sports and especially enjoyed watching the Twins, Timberwolves, Vikings, and Wild - teams that brought him both great joy and, at times, disappointment. He was also an active participant in sports himself, golfing regularly and bowling in leagues for many years. An avid runner, Tim completed Grandma’s Marathon and the Twin Cities Marathon multiple times, along with several other marathons across the country

His love for the West Side community extended beyond residency - he volunteered for many years as a youth baseball and football coach with the West Side Boosters and also served as a dedicated board member.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 13th, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, located at Charlton and Wentworth in West St. Paul, with visitation beginning one hour prior at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the church.
