Lilia Eugenia Aballi Gomez Obituary

Lilia Aballi was born on March 26, 1934, in Havana, Cuba, to her parents, Eloisa Gomez and Teleforo Aballi. In 1959, Lilia came to America, carrying with her the strength, resilience, and rich traditions of her Cuban roots. Like so many who begin again in a new land, she built a life through determination, sacrifice, and hope for future generations. Her journey was one of bravery and perseverance, and her family is part of the legacy she created.

For many years, Lilia made her home in the Bronx, New York City, where she built her life and community. In 2016, she moved to Minnesota so she could be close to her family, where she was surrounded by the love and care of those who cherished her most.

Lilia was a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished matriarch. She is survived by her loving son, Antonio Espinosa, her daughter-in-law, Jessica Espinosa; and her two beloved grandchildren, Kolten (Jessica) and Erasmus Espinosa, who brought her great joy and pride. She was also joyfully anticipating the arrival of her first great-grandchild, expected by Kolten and Jessica Espinosa. Lilia is now reunited in heaven with her beloved mother, Eloisa Gomez, and her father, Teleforo Aballi and sister, Caridad; and all loved ones who went before her.

She was a proud, private, and dignified person who was an anchor for many throughout her life, someone people could depend on in times of need. Generous with her time and steady in her presence she touched many lives through her kindness and strength. Lilia worked hard all her life as homemaker for others and home care attendant, always in service to others.

Lilia also found joy in music and especially loved listening to Celia Cruz, whose voice and spirit connected her to her Cuban culture and memories she carried throughout her life. In her later years, she enjoyed doing word finds, watching telenovelas, and took delight in visits from family and friends. She lived a life defined by courage, devotion, and unwavering love for those she held dear.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit endures in the hearts of all who loved her. She will be forever remembered and deeply missed.

A memorial service to celebrate Lilia’s life will be held on May 16, 2026 from 1-4pm at the Cremation Society St Paul with a prayer service to occur at 2:30pm. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, gratitude, and love. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to CLUES (Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio). Lilia spent many days at their elder care program playing bingo, making art, and creating connections.
