Jeffrey Edward Birkeli

December 20, 1959-April 17, 2026

Jeff Birkeli, age 66, of New Brighton, died peacefully at home on April 17 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jeff was a 1979 graduate of Washburn High School in South Minneapolis. He retained a core group of childhood friends throughout his life and acquired new friends wherever he went.

Jeff was an avid golfer who enjoyed sports and games of all kinds. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Glenda Lillmars; daughters, Emily (Dallas) Miner, Audrey Williams, and Charlotte Birkeli; grandchildren, Hailey, Layne, Chloe, and Chris; brother, Joe Birkeli; sister, June (Brad) Holin; nephew, Justin (Lisa) Birkeli; nieces Jenna (Alec) Voigt, Angela (Martin) Ly, Isabelle and Ariane Ravanas, and Cecilia Bradley.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dolores Birkeli. 

A special thanks to Jeff’s medical team at Minnesota Oncology, especially Dr. David King, and to the staff and caregivers from Allina Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held May 3rd from 12:30-4:00 at Surly Brewing Co. Loon Room, 520 Malcolm Ave. SE, Minneapolis. (Open house, no program.)
